Happy World Book Day!
Pathway Education is behind every teacher and student celebrating this year’s World Book Day. To all of the teachers putting on special activities, and the students showing up in spectacular costumes, everyone at Pathway says well done for celebrating the joy reading brings us.
There has never been a more important time to highlight the significance of reading and the benefits it can bring young children’s lives. With the cost of living crisis strangling the pockets of schools across the country, and the long-term impact of two nationwide lockdowns becoming apparent, it is essential for children to be reminded of the power reading can bring.
In a time where social division is rife, reading can be used as a tool to bring children from all backgrounds together. Reading can kick-start new-found passions and interests, it can enable children to unlock new levels of imagination, and enhance the cultural capital of every young person.
So, let’s get our young people reading! Pathway educations top 5 books for World Book Day!
#1 A. M. Dassu – Fight Back
‘Fight Back’ tells the empowering story about finding one’s identity and the courage to fight for it. Follow thirteen year-old Aaliyah, a Muslim girl from the Midlands on a journey to fight discrimination and give a voice to those who don’t possess one.

He can’t stop scoring at the moment and this book is certainly a top-bins screamer. Marcus Rashford’s second instalment ‘You Can Do It’ is an inspiring read for young people. ‘You Can Do It’ acts as a life guide for children across the country, telling kids how to be proud of who they are, and how to achieve greater.
Rashford has been one of the most influential activists when it comes to improving the lives of children, and this book certainly reinforces that reputation.
#4 Phil Earle – While the Storm Rages
For all the history lovers out there, ‘While the Storm Rages’ is a powerfully emotional read. Set in the backdrop of the start of the Second World War, Noah has to keep a promise to his Father when he’s sent off to fight; keep the dog safe. Join Noah and his two friends on an incredible journey of discovery and heartbreak as Noah tries to save his dog, his friends, and as many animals as he can find. ‘While the Storm Rages’ is an incredible story which can’t be missed.
#5 Stephen Mangan – The Fart that Changed the World
Farts. It’s a book about farts and it is amazing. Awakening on the most important day of his life, King Fabian has let off a stinker, and it’s not gone well. In the shock of hearing such a crime, the Queen goes into hysterics and forces Fabian to make a mistake he’ll live to regret.
This incredibly funny and clever book will give every young reader the laugh they deserve. This adventure story is brought to life in beautiful illustration and is an absolute must-read. Plus, in case you had forgotten, it has farts.
